Stack Digital Video-loggers Overview

Stack DVLs can be connected directly to any Stack Dash Display or Data logging system by CAN Bus (excluding the ST700). Up to 128 channels of data (recorded at rates up to 200 Hz), including GPS and the internal 3-axis G-sensor channels, can be recorded with the video and audio. The recorded MPEG2 file can be played back directly on a DVD player or any PC media player. Additionally, the video and data can be viewed and analysed in the supplied Stack DataPro Analysis software to aid the performance of both driver and vehicle.

Stack’s PRO-4 and CLUBMAN-3 multi-camera DVLs are the most robust in-car video recorders available. The slim, lightweight, waterproof design makes them the perfect solution for all motorsport and trackday applications. The main difference between models is that the PRO-4 is waterproof and enjoys a higher operating temperature.

Stack DVLs feature a rugged machined aluminium housing specifically designed and manufactured to protect the unit in harsh environments (HE). The unit is compact and durable with no moving parts (other than the sealed CF card access door), and is capable of operating where normal VCRs or DV recorders are not. Recording in harsh environments, such as continual shock and vibration, and extreme climate conditions is now entirely possible, making it ideal for all demanding recording applications. Its anti-vibration and shock-resistant abilities make Stack DVLs are uniquely resistant to extreme conditions encountered in Motorsport - we have over 5 years experience of harsh environment video.

Full recording control
Stack DVLs capture TV broadcast standard video and audio up to 20Mbps, directly onto a Compact Flash (CF) card. The image can be recorded in either 4:3 or 16:9 (widescreen) aspect ratio. The DVLs have an A/V output for connection to an external monitor. Recording can be triggered automatically using the built-in 3 axis G-sensor or any other data channel.

Alternatively use the included remote control record trigger switch with status LED. Few other race action camera systems on the market offer such flexible and comprehensive recording control.

Enhanced range with multi-camera processors built-in
Stack's enhanced range of DVLs have built in multi-camera processors. Simple to use PC software enables you to create your own multi-camera screen layout, positioning, cutting, cropping and scaling individual camera images as required. Unlike some other systems, our multi-camera Starter Kits are supplied with only high quality cameras, so that you can maintain each picture-in-picture at full resolution if desired, while cropping it to show only the area of interest, without loss of quality.

Multi-Camera Screen Display
Stack’s multiple camera DVLs capture the whole story. Multiple camera angles add significantly to the awareness you have about your driving, the vehicle’s performance and other vehicles around you, producing both exciting video footage and performance improving information.

Both the PRO-4 and CLUBMAN-3 incorporate built-in multi-camera processors that allow any format of multiple PAL or NTSC cameras (up to 3 or 4 inputs, depending on model) to be recorded simultaneously with configurable scaling, crop, mirror, flip and positioning of each picture. Unlike other systems, picture-in-picture can be recorded at full resolution, or larger if desired.

Total freedom to place any video element (or part of one) anywhere on screen!

Stack’s multiple camera input DVLs give the user full control over all screen elements. Together with comprehensive recording set-up using the DVL Configuration Utility, standard across all models, the advanced Custom Display Utility provides complete control of each picture’s size, position, picture cropping and position.

The easy-to-use software utilises a simple click and drag interface to set up how each input channel is displayed.

Stack DVLs support a number of external interfaces. The new CAN interface allows the DVL to be directly connected to an existing Stack Dash Display or Data Logging system.

A serial port is available to connect an optional GPS Receiver which outputs NMEA 0183 serial data packets to provide speed, position, altitude, time and date information.

CAN-bus, Serial Interfaces & Ethernet interfaces
Click to enlargeStack DVRs support a number of external interfaces.

The CAN interface allows a Stack DVL to be directly connected to one or more Stack data expansion modules or a third party ECU.

A serial port is available to connect an optional GPS Receiver which outputs NMEA 0183 serial data packets to provide speed, position, altitude, time and date information.

We have also introduced an Ethernet interface which provides a stable communications network interface that can be accessed virtually anywhere. As well as fast downloading of video, audio and data recorded, the ethernet link can be used to to connect additional input devices for recording. With its own IP address, a Clubman-3 and Pro-4 also become fully programmable from any PC on the network.

3rd party CAN interface option
Stack's 3rd party CAN interface option (ST8339) consists of the CAN Gateway Template Editor tool for the PC, a wiring adapter to allow the DVL to be connected to the CAN Hi and CAN Lo outputs of the CAN device, as well as an authorisation PIN code.

This allows the DVL to be connected to a wide range of devices including Engine Control Unit (ECU) modules, navigation modules and specialist sensors outputting in CAN format. Data from the CAN device can then be captured by the DVR and used for video data overlay and / or metadata recording.

With the metadata recording option, video and data can then be accessed in Stack's DataPro analysis software. It provides a single box solution for customers wishing to record video, audio, internal accelerometer, GPS and CAN data to a single Compact Flash (CF) memory card.

Data Overlay

Click to enlargeData Overlay enables data from these CAN and/or GPS sources, together with the internal 3-axis G-sensor, to be overlaid on the recorded video image.

Positioning the data on the image is simple, using the easy-to-use drag-and-drop PC configuration software.

Synchronized Video-logging

Click to enlargeStack DVLs have a built-in CAN interface, enabling connection to any Stack Display or Logging System, or third party ECU, to provide synchronous data and video recording and/or overlay of data channels on the video.

Data from the Stack system plus the internal 3-axis G-sensor and optional GPS receiver, are recorded with the video onto the CF card for subsequent replay and analysis using the Stack DataPro software supplied.

Geo Map Option
Click to enlargeGeoMaps is a new optional feature for DataPro.

The Geospatial Map visualization provides satellite imagery for GPS data overlay. Load a run with latitude and longitude channels and a satellite image will be displayed behind the GPS route, no configuration necessary!
